Guisachan 'The Home of the Golden Retriever'
The "Guisachan Golden Gathering" was organised as part of the Golden Retriever Club of Scotland's 60th Anniversary celebrations.
Guisachan is an estate which sits 40 miles west of Inverness and was the Highland Estate of Dudley Coutts Marjoribanks, later to become Lord Tweedmouth. It was there that he originated the breeding programme of the yellow retriever, which developed into the Golden Retriever as we know it today, so Guisachan can be regarded as the Breeds ancestral home.
And what a fantastic weekend it was. It began with Highland Canine Association Open Show at Dingwall on the Saturday morning which was judged by Barbara Moore (Australia). After judging we all travelled to Guisachan Estate to have our picnics. Activities for the afternoon included the Haggis Hurling Competition, Tug of War and a scurry. The final task for the afternoon was to gather all the Goldies in front of Guisachan House for a photo and then another including all the owners, handlers & friends. These beautiful pictures were taken by Lynn Kipps and they were fantastic momentos to keep of the weekend.
A marquee Dinner & Dance followed in the evening in the grounds of the Tomich Hotel where we were introduced to all our overseas visitors from New Zealand, Australia & America.
An Open Show was arranged for Sunday, where judge Mervyn Philpott (Westley & Standerwick) judged an entry of 191 dogs in beautiful sunshine. Best Bitch & Best In Show went to Claire Gray's Knockothie Anastasia. Best Dog & Reserve Best in Show went to Marie & Mrs Grady's Stanroph Security Boy. Best Puppy was Mrs Heather Morris' Sandusky Young Pretender. Best Veteran & Reserve Best Bitch was Fisher & Denyer's Rosinante Lady Madonna at Palizolla.
